Prep Your Home for Winter: Three Ways

As winter weather makes its way to us, we can make sure our home is ready for it.

A long-time advisor to our clients, home inspector Mark George shares three top priorities for your home at this time of year:

  • Clean and service your heating system to ensure it runs at optimum efficiency.
  • Clean gutters, downspouts and any outside drains before they freeze; this will help prevent water from leaking into the basement and through window frames.
  • Shut off any garden hose hook-ups, draining them so that they don’t freeze and burst.

While you’re at it, latch all windows tightly; if they’re vinyl, this will also help preserve their shape.

May you be warm and toasty this season!
